Abuja – Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, has assessed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration after two years in office as "average," insisting Nigeria is capable of far greater achievements.
In a broadcast interview on Kaftan TV on May 30, 2025, the Regent of Abagana also delivered a sharp warning to his party, stating the PDP would face certain defeat if it fields a northern candidate in the 2027 general election.
"""I would say his performance is average! We can achieve so much more," Anakwenze declared. "Nigeria is a country blessed by God... We should be a great country, a world power!"
While he called the removal of the fuel subsidy "the right step," he faulted its sudden implementation. "He should have phased it slowly over a two-year period... so that people can adjust," he advised.
The medical practitioner outlined a broad vision for national revival, slamming the country's over-reliance on oil and lack of industrial production. "We are not producing anything and that is why the Naira is worth nothing!" he lamented.
Dr. Anakwenze called for urgent economic diversification through agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing, stressing the need for 24-hour electricity to power industrialization. "You need 24-hour electricity... smaller countries have it, why do we not have electricity when we have gas flaring... rivers... and coal in abundance!"
On the 2027 presidential race, Anakwenze, who confirmed he is still in the PDP, was unequivocal. He argued that after eight years of a northern presidency under Muhammadu Buhari, rotational fairness demands a southern candidate.
"PDP messed themselves up," he said. "If PDP fields a northern candidate again, they will lose the whole south and Middlebelt states. PDP need to learn, to relax, sit back and watch and see how other people can lead."
